The UConn Proxy Account is a very useful tool for faculty/staff/students
to use. It allows those users connecting from a different
Internet Service Provider to connect to the UConn (137.99)
domain. This allows the entire UConn community to access the
Library databases and download files from the FTP server.
Setting up the Proxy Account is actually easier than
most users believe. All it really takes is entering a script
into the settings of your browser and then you're ready to
connect to the desired UConn address.
There is a preferred way to configure the Proxy: Automatic. This will work in Netscape and Internet
Explorer and is fairly simple to configure. Just to note,
the proxy will not work with a proprietary browser, which
is a browser that comes bundled with an ISP (for example,
the version of IE that is shipped with AOL or Juno). However,
it is possible to sidestep this proprietary issue by downloading
Netscape.

The Manual Configuration
must be configured every time users want to connect to the 137.99
domain.
